Complete Care Guide

# Ceanothus Care Guide Ceanothus (California Lilac) is a native evergreen shrub celebrated for its spectacular spring display of blue or purple flower clusters. Once established, it requires virtually no supplemental water. ## Planting Plant in fall or early spring in full sun with excellent drainage. Avoid clay soils or areas with summer irrigation. Space 6–10 feet apart. ## Watering Water deeply every 2 weeks for the first summer. Once established (after 1–2 years), do not water in summer — summer water is the primary cause of death. ## Pruning Light pruning after flowering to shape. Avoid heavy pruning — it does not regenerate from old wood. ## Caution Do not water established plants in summer. This is critical.
