Complete Care Guide

# Fremontodendron Care Guide Fremontodendron (Flannel Bush) is one of the most spectacular native California shrubs, covered in large waxy golden-yellow flowers in spring. It is extremely drought tolerant and requires virtually no care once established. ## Planting Plant in fall in full sun with excellent drainage. Avoid clay soils or summer irrigation. Space 8–12 feet apart. ## Watering Water deeply every 2–3 weeks for the first summer. Once established, do not water in summer — summer water is fatal. ## Pruning Minimal pruning needed. Light shaping after flowering if desired. Avoid heavy pruning. ## Caution The hairs on the leaves and stems can irritate skin and eyes. Wear gloves and eye protection when pruning.
