About This Collection

Every year, homeowners waste hundreds of dollars on plants that die within weeks. The problem isn't your gardening skills — it's that generic plant lists ignore the three factors that actually determine survival: your USDA hardiness zone, your yard's sun exposure, and your specific lifestyle needs like pet safety or deer pressure.

What thrives in a sunny Zone 8 yard in Georgia will struggle in a shaded Zone 5 garden in Minnesota. A plant labeled 'easy to grow' at the nursery might be toxic to your dog or devoured by deer within days. The only way to know what will actually work in YOUR yard is to match plants to your exact conditions.

PlantWise eliminates the guesswork. Enter your ZIP code, tell us about your sun exposure and any constraints (pets, deer, maintenance level), and we'll generate a personalized plant list in under 60 seconds — every plant proven to survive in your specific climate zone.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know what USDA zone I'm in?

Enter your ZIP code in our plant finder and we'll automatically determine your USDA hardiness zone. Zones range from 3 (extreme cold) to 11 (tropical), and they determine which plants can survive your winters.

Does sun exposure really matter that much?

Absolutely. A plant that needs 'full sun' (6+ hours of direct sunlight) will become leggy, stop flowering, or die in shade. Conversely, shade plants will scorch in direct afternoon sun. Getting this right is the #1 factor in plant survival.

What if I don't know my yard's sun exposure?

Observe your planting area at 3 times during the day: morning (8am), midday (12pm), and afternoon (3pm). If it gets direct sun at all three times, it's full sun. If only 1-2 of those times, it's part sun/shade. If none, it's full shade.

Can I plant anything if I have dogs or cats?

Yes — hundreds of beautiful plants are non-toxic to pets. PlantWise lets you filter specifically for dog-safe or cat-safe plants so you can build a gorgeous garden without worry.
